There have been reports of muggers who pretend to know you but they are actually trying to steal your valuables.

According to a lady on the Costa Blanca forum her husband was victim of an attempted mugging in La Marina. Whilst driving home he was followed by a couple in an old grey VW Passat and when he pulled up a woman in her twenties got out of the Passat and approached him. She acted as an old friend with hugs and tried to steal his watch. He pushed her away and retreated to his house then saw the Passat drive off at speed. They think their UK number plates might have attracted attention but for whatever reason they were targeted please be careful when out and about.

There have also been reports of similar mugging attempts in Punta Prima where they pretend to know the victims or ask for directions.

Hopefully these are rare occurrences but as Christmas approaches and crowds gather it wouldn’t do any harm to be vigilant at all times.
