The Spanish Government has approved a package of road traffic legislation designed specifically to make the roads safer and reduce the number of deaths and those getting seriously injured.
The changes in law, which are due to take effect from 2 January 2021, are in relation to driving licence points and behaviour which jeopardises road safety.
For example, there is an increase from 3 to 4 points for not using a seat belt, child seat or helmet and zero tolerance on exceeding the speed limit when overtaking. Points can be recovered upon completion of a safe driving course and there is a redefinition of speed limits depending on the road classification.
Further detail of these changes and the remainder of these legal reforms can be found on the N332 website (which is operated by the Spanish Police and Road Safety Association).
Drive safely.
