Over the past two days I have received reports about children using the eastern pool having what appears to be an allergic reaction after swimming in the water.
The urbanisation committee and I have taken these complaints very seriously and have asked our maintenance contractor for an explanation.
He has assured us that he has not increased the level of chlorine in the water, but because of the complaints he has decreased the amount being used by 10%.
Our vice president has advised us that she has personally seen parents smothering their children with sun cream while being in the pool area prior to going into the water and has spoken to one parent about it.
She has a knowledge of the use and maintenance of pools and has advised me that extensive use of sun creams can react with chlorine in the water and can cause an allergic reaction.
The urbanisation does require people using the pool to shower before entering the water for hygiene reasons and also to wash off excessive sun creams, which form a scum around the pool and can add to chemical reactions. It is also important to properly shower again when getting out of the pool.
Our vice president has personally taken on herself to taste the water in the pool and can barely taste any chlorine.
This matter will be discussed by our committee next month.
