New rules for drivers overtaking cyclists

New rules mean that a driver has to be more cautious when overtaking a cyclist. Currently drivers need to leave a gap of at least 1.5 metres when overtaking a cyclist but this has been increased to 2 metres and drivers must slow down to at least 20 kilometres per hour below the speed limit.

Failing to adhere to this rule could result in a €200 fine and three points deducted from your licence.

Further details of this new rule are available on the thinkspain website along with other measures announced by Spain’s Directorate of Traffic.
