Repair of Playa Flamenca Promenade Railings

Orihuela Council has initiated the tender process for repairing the railings along the promenades of Playa Flamenca and La Zenia. Councillor Manuel Mestre emphasised that, after years of deterioration, this project aims to restore these promenades to their deserved condition, enhancing both safety and aesthetics.

The repair work involves completely replacing the vertical posts of the railings while reusing the horizontal tubes that remain in good condition; damaged tubes will be replaced as necessary. The new design focuses on durability and resistance to maritime environmental conditions. The project encompasses 767.94 meters in Playa Flamenca and 372.88 meters in La Zenia, with a total budget of €195,016.16. Once commenced, the work is expected to take three months to complete.

Discussions about this project date back to September 2024, when Mestre announced an initial investment of €216,000. Delays occurred due to funding adjustments, as the initial budget was insufficient to cover all 1,440 linear meters requiring renovation. An additional €85,000 was allocated to address the shortfall. While some residents proposed using wood for its aesthetic appeal, municipal technicians recommended chrome nickel for its durability and low maintenance in a maritime environment. Despite these disagreements, the motion was unanimously approved, marking progress in addressing this long-standing issue.
