Owners who rent their property out are now legally required to have a Tourism Licence (if they are not with an official agent). They also need to register every guest with the local police.
The police are encouraging residents to contact them if they suspect a particular owner does not have the required licence. Furthermore, the Government has instructed the police to conduct house to house enquiries to check if the property is being let and whether there is a licence.
This law is a recent modification to the original law that only related to owners operating as businesses. It is now obligatory for all owners letting out properties without an official agent to apply for a Tourism Licence.
